Legal and Compliance Considerations for Businesses Using AI Systems

About the Event

Join us for the second session of the CP Morning Brief on the 21st May from 9 till 11.30 at The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Valletta featuring Sharon Xuereb.

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in everyday business operations, whether through large language models, chatbots, or other AI-powered tools, organisations face a critical question: how can such technologies be implemented responsibly and in compliance with the law?

In this field, legal obligations extend not only to developers, but also to businesses that deploy or use AI within their day-to-day operations, whether this takes place through credit scoring or HR-related profiling, fraud management, or predictive analytics. With key requirements under the EU AI Act currently still set to apply from August 2026, now is the time to begin preparing.

This practical session will explore key legal and compliance considerations associated with AI, including risk classification of entities using AI and management, gap analysis and readiness assessments, updates to internal policies and procedures, AI literacy and training, transparency and accountability requirements, and incident reporting obligations.

The session will also address anticipated developments under the Digital Omnibus Package, as well as penalties for non-compliance, providing businesses with a clearer view of what lies ahead and how to best prepare for it.
