Ron Galea Cavallazzi, Edward Mizzi and Kristina Abela have once again contributed the Malta Chapter for the 14th Edition of Lexology In-Depth: Corporate Immigration (formerly The Corporate Immigration Review). It can be accessed here.
The chapter provides an overview of the immigration framework in Malta, including local laws, policy and authorities. Additionally, it covers residence rights, exemptions and favoured industries, requirements for work permits sponsored by employers and schemes for investors and entrepreneurs.
The chapter also discusses recent developments in the sector, namely:
- Launch of a new expatriates portal for the submission of applications by EU nationals;
- Transposition of the Recast EU Blue Card Directive;
- Introduction of a new scheme called Specialist Employee Initiative and amendment to the existing scheme called Key Employee Initiative; and
- Changes in relation to the Nomad Residence Permit.
