The Malta Stock Exchange has recently announced the launch of the MSX FinTech Accelerator Programme, an initiative taken in collaboration with Binance, the leading cryptocurrency exchange.
The MSX FinTech Accelerator Programme has been set up for the purpose of supporting start-up companies, and includes a mentoring programme aimed at bringing together international technology and media leaders and fintech and cryptocurrency start-ups. Additionally, as sponsor of the Programme, the Malta Stock Exchange will be giving start-up companies access to a variety of professional business services and facilities, such as office space, conference rooms, training centres and in-house payroll and accounting services.
The launch of the Accelerator Programme arrives on the back of the publication of three blockchain and cryptocurrency legislative bills by the Government of Malta, which bills have been tabled in Parliament. Malta is home to a number of cryptocurrency exchanges and is seeking to establish itself as a global hub for blockchain and cryptocurrency innovation, providing legal certainty in a predominantly unregulated environment. The impending promulgation of these new pieces of legislation, which are expected to enter into force during the 3rd quarter of 2018, together with the launch of the MSX FinTech Accelerator Programme, have attracted significant interest in Malta’s “blockchain island” programme.
